What are the most emblematic images in the history of photography in Brazil?

To answer this question, the television series Crossing Moments will present iconic photographs that form a compelling collection on the history of this art in the country and propose their reinterpretation through the eyes of contemporary photographers.

In today’s world, where images are reproduced thousands of times and seen through countless overlapping gazes on social media, this documentary television series sets out to rediscover the magic inherent in the art of photography, from its very origins.

Each episode, Milton Guran, curator of FotoRio — the Rio de Janeiro International Photography Meeting, the largest event of its kind in Latin America — will reveal aspects of the history of photography in Brazil, challenging leading contemporary photographers and Instagram creators to recreate a celebrated photograph.

To do so, the invited participants will have to dive into the secrets of the old art of photography, rediscover the importance of landscape, recover abandoned cameras, relive the history and drama of the original subjects, and engage in other challenges. Through trial and error, the only certainty is that the final result will be surprising. In each episode, past and present connect in a new photograph, created especially for the program.

The series will also engage with anonymous photographers who create content for social media. Viewers will be invited to post photos related to the theme of the week on the program’s Instagram account. In each episode, Milton Guran will present the best photos to the audience, reinforcing that photography is a living art.
